Joel & Elizabeth | Behind The Scenes
Elizabeth had answered a model call I put out a few weeks ago for an intimate couples session. I've been wanting to do one of these for awhile but was having a hard time finding a couple that was willing. I had a dress and location I wanted to use and she and Joel were up for all of my ideas. Last minute I decided to change the location of the session, and they rolled with whatever I threw at them. I'm so glad they did. This creek with the waterfall was stunning. As you walked back towards it, it felt like you were walking into a rain forest. All you heard was nature and running water. It was like entering a whole different world. I couldn't have asked for a better or more perfect spot for this session.
I had gone earlier in the day Friday to check it out and be a little more prepared for the shoot. I try to do this for all of my sessions if I haven't been to the location before.
Surprisingly the water wasn't too cold, and was actually pretty warm considering it's still early spring. I was expecting it to be freezing and felt kind of guilty for wanting to put them in it. But I came prepared to get in there with them. I even packed a bathing suit just in case!
I asked a fellow photographer, Vicki, of Garnet Dahlia Photography to join me last minute on Friday and was so happy she was able to! She got some behind the scenes photos of me, too!
There were so many photo opportunities at this location that it would have taken me hours to use them all. Maneuvering around the slippery rocks and the water was tricky, and it took time. And we were running out of daylight, but we made the best of it!
Joel and Elizabeth were so chill and laid back, I felt completely comfortable working with them and posing them despite the sensitive nature of these shots.
This session was perfect timing for them. They're getting ready to celebrate their 8th wedding anniversary next month! I couldn't think of a better way to pay tribute to their marriage.
My favorite photos were some of the very last ones I took. Both Elizabeth and Joel got in their swim suits so they could go into the deeper part of the water. I took this photo with live view on my camera, so I could get a little lower to the water and a little closer to them without getting my equipment wet. We were losing all of our light and I love the mood it gave to these photos. I also love the raw and passionate connection these two have.
I can't thank these two enough for helping my vision for this session come to life, and can't wait to return to this spot and offer more of these intimate couple sessions.
