Mike & Kristin's Secret NYC Elopement

Some couples want a big wedding. Mike and Kristin wanted something entirely different: just the two of them, a summer day, and New York City as their backdrop.

Their New York City elopement was kept completely secret, with no guests in attendance and no traditional wedding-day expectations. They got ready at the iconic Hotel Chelsea, then spent the day bopping around Manhattan in a vintage cab before making their way to Civil Hall for their ceremony.

It was intimate, spontaneous, and very, very New York.

The Setting

Starting at Hotel Chelsea, we photographed some getting-ready moments before heading out into the city.

From there, we wandered through NYC, stopping wherever something caught our eye. The city became the backdrop—busy streets, architecture, unexpected corners, and all the beautiful chaos that comes with a summer day in Manhattan.

The Day

After exploring the city, they headed to Civil Hall for their elopement ceremony—just the two of them, officially becoming married without telling a soul.

Then came one of my favorite stops: the Clark Street subway station.

Their new last name? Clark.

Obviously, we had to get a photograph there.

It's the kind of personal, slightly ridiculous detail that makes an elopement feel like yours instead of something pulled from a wedding Pinterest board.

We ended the night on the East River Ferry, watching New York move around them as the sun went down.

The Vibe

The entire day felt intimate, spontaneous, playful, and completely one-of-a-kind.

There was no timeline to perform for and no guest list to accommodate. Just Mike and Kristin, exploring the city, getting married, and making the day up as they went.

That's what I love about NYC elopement photography.

You don't have to fit your wedding into a formula.

You can get married at City Hall, take the subway, wander through Manhattan, and end the night on a ferry.

You can make the entire day about the two of you.

The Photography

I approached their New York City elopement photography with a documentary and editorial eye—letting the city provide the movement, energy, and unexpected moments.

The goal wasn't to manufacture a perfect wedding day.

It was to document their day.

The sweat, the laughter, the wandering, the little inside jokes, the subway stop with their new last name, and the final ferry ride across the harbor.

Because sometimes the best wedding photographs come from the things you never planned.
